There are many myths floating around the health industry related to gaining weight and we’re going to look at them today. If you believed any of them in the past you need to forget about them straight away if you ever want the body you deserve.

Eating late at night

A lot of people are scared to eat anything at night because they think it will make them fat. They seem to think their body shuts down as soon as they’re in bed and the food they’ve eaten will stay in their stomach. The reason they think this way is because they’ve been fed a lot of crap by people who don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. You can eat anything you want at night and you’ll not get fat unless you go over your daily calorie limit because your body doesn’t switch off when you go to sleep.

Drinking diet soda

You can’t get fat if you eat something that doesn’t contain any calories and diet soda is the perfect example of this. In a normal can of soda there is far too much sugar and it contains lots of calories, but diet soda doesn’t contain any. That means you could drink a whole case every day and you wouldn’t end up having to use a different belt hole. There are other reasons why you shouldn’t drink too much diet soda, but don’t be afraid to drink a can if you want to wash down your lunch.

Skipping breakfast

This is related to the first thing we spoke about because of those people who think your body shuts down when you sleep at night. They also think breakfast kick-starts their metabolism and by eating it they’ll naturally burn more calories throughout the day. This is maybe one of the craziest myths in the world and you don’t need to eat breakfast if you’re not hungry as soon as you wake up. If you skip breakfast there is less time to stuff your face with extra calories throughout the day.

Eating white carbs

Eating white carbs will make you fat if you eat too many of them, but so will anything else that contains calories. The big myth has to do with the fact people think white carbs are more fattening than wholemeal carbs. We can argue about which one is better for you until the cows come home, but at the end of the day they both contain very similar amounts of calories. If you eat too much of either one you’ll gain weight, so don’t feel like you have to stick to the wholemeal variety.

Fat is misunderstood by so many people and I think it’s simply because of its name. The fat you eat has nothing to do with body fat. If you don’t eat fat you will die because it’s essential for your body to function. It also happens to be delicious, and it’s calorie-rich which means you don’t need to eat as much of it to hit your daily calorie limit. If you decide to eat a lot of fat you won’t gain weight as long as you track your calories so you don’t eat more than you should.
